"My name is Kenya Smith-Woodley, and I am an academic scholar, a budding artist, and a dedicated student volunteer at the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation (KAF). Since April 2023, I have been actively involved in the Creative Minds program, where I engage with children aged 4 to 7. To me, this program symbolizes an enriching opportunity for young learners in public schools and preschools to explore diverse subjects and develop essential skills through the magic of creativity and art. As a volunteer, I assist KAF teachers in classes and interact with a variety of young students. Each student's unique thinking and creativity have captivated me, showcasing their individuality and artistic expressions. The program's diverse student population from various backgrounds is a highlight, offering a refreshing change from traditional classroom settings. The program's innovative teaching methods, such as engaging all five senses, cater to different learning styles, ensuring no student is left behind. Unlike conventional classrooms, the program encourages a relaxed environment, with students and teachers sitting together on comfortable mats, fostering a sense of equality. Incorporating playful activities enhances lessons, promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills among students. The Creative Minds program provides a cost-free experience for students and offers teachers valuable insights into effective teaching strategies that can be applied in traditional classrooms. This program stands out for its positive impact on students, fostering growth and creativity. As a volunteer, it is a privilege to witness the students' development and artistic flair at Kaleidoscope, an experience I eagerly anticipate continuing."
